OFFICER GARY BEVEL
Watch Channel 4 (news4jax.com) Video of Parole Hearing
February 7, 2007 UPDATE: "The initial hearing was held this morning. There was no one to speak on behalf of the inmate. There were various people present including the Sheriff of Duval County and Assistant State Attorney Bernie De La Rionda and representatives for the Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Benevolent Association to speak on behalf of the victim.
The Commission computed the presumptive parole release date based on the circumstances of the case. Based on the inmates prior history and the salient factor score, the original offense was scored at 240 months. In considering the aggravations the Commission added; 60 months for the use of the firearm ,
240 months for the heinous nature of the crime-(the victim was shot multiple times), 240 months for the ruse used to make the officer more vulnerable (she dropped her keys) , 240 months because the offense was committed so that she could avoid a lawful arrest, 360 months because the victim was a sworn law enforcement officer ,
And 120 months for the inmates disciplinary record.
Using the months calculated for the aggravations, the Commission voted to set the inmates presumptive parole release date at May 17, 2108. The inmate must be reviewed again in at least 5 years so the Commission set the next interview date out as far as possible at October, 2011.
Your input was greatly appreciated by the Commission. Please keep in mind that the setting of a presumptive parole release date does not guarantee parole for the inmate. She does not have to be paroled when and if we ever reach that date. Parole in Florida is a grace, not a right."

HELP KEEP BROTHER'S MURDERER BEHIND BARS
![]() Officer Gary Bevel |
| Andrea Hicks Jackson up for Parole! 29-year-old Jacksonville Police Officer Gary Bevel was killed in the line of duty in May of 1983 when Andrea Hicks Jackson unloaded six bullets into him while he was attempting to arrest her. Andrea Hicks Jackson was arrested, tried, found guilty and sentenced to death for the senseless murder of our Brother. Unfortunately, the legal system did not work in this case. Jackson's death sentence was commuted to life and she now has the opportunity to be paroled. She is scheduled to appear before the Parole Commission on February 7, 2007 with a recommendation that she be released on May 15, 2018 (absurdly ironic National Peace Officer's Memorial Day!). Help us keep the murderer Andrea Hicks Jackson behind bars by writing or emailing your feelings to the Parole Commission: email: daphneasbell@fpc.state.fl.us |
